Glynn –
I’ve had this machine for around 2 years now. It’s excellent, very well made, solid and extremely versattile givein the low and high pulleys. I also got a variety of fat grip attachments to go with it which are all also excellent. The weight blocks move up and down the guide rods smoothly and only require the occasional spray with silicone lube to keep friction down. As well as the usual exercises you do on a machine like this (pulldowns, seated rows, tricep pressdowns etc), I also do horizontal fat grip EZ curls and horizontal EZ rows (as opposed to the upright barbell version) and hip belt squats, both using the lower pulley of course. They all work really well.
My stack weighs 104kg: I’m not sure where WGE get the 120 from. I weighed the selector rod and top weight block prior to putting it together and it weighs 5kg and each block thereafter weighs 5.5kg. I also got the optional micro adjusters. There’s two of those each weighing 1.8kg each. I’d recommend this extra expence as 5.5kg increments are far too big I feel.
So where does it lose a star? The sales experience wasn’t the best: it took numerous email to get the information that I wanted. Space is at a premium and I needed the footprint of the machine to ensure that it would fit in my home gym and it took a while to get this.
Secondly, when the machine arrived unassembled on a pallet, the packing was abysmal: the various parts weren’t secured, some of them were hanging off the side of the pallet alomost falling off and some of the weight blocks were missing. I had to contact WGE regarding this and they sent out the missing blocks separately.
Lastly, there were no assembly instructions. WGE can’t assume that we all have the knowhow to put these machines together. The main frame, stack and guide rods were no problem but the cabling and pulley system beat the. I had to phone up WGE to find out how to route the cables and was on the phone to them as I followed their verbal instructions. Written instructions should most definitely have been included.
Summary: the machine itself is fantastic but sales, packing and lack of assembly instructions let WGE down. I know I’m a home gym user and I’m guessing that most of WGE’s business is commercial and they send their own staff to assemble the machines, but the home gym user needs to be catered for as well.

The Lat Pulldown Low Pulley is the first Watson machine in my gym, after purchasing some specialist bars and being delighted with them, when it came to replacing my lat machine, Watson was my first port of call. The machine is now installed in the gym. Brutally beautiful, in it’s silver and red livery.
The overall quality is astounding, heavy gauge box section and plate steel have been superbly engineered to produce this super strong unit.
The quality of the welding is first class and the paint finish on the framework is perfect. Regrettably, the days when I could pulldown well beyond my body weight are a distant memory, but the quality of the wide hold down pads on this unit are extremely comfortable, when pulling down heavy loads. It looks stunning, is strongly built and engineered with real precision, so it comes as no surprise that it is a real pleasure to use. Whether using the lat bar or pulling with a “V” bar on the low pulley, everything is super smooth and feels right.
Very happy, It may be the first, but I don’t think this will be the last Watson machine in my gym. A very big thank you to everyone at Watson.
